When I was on a creative writing course in High School, we once went to visit a cemetery.
There we had to look at the graves and think about the stories, feelings and the background of each person.
We had to choose one grave and write a poem about the person in question.
It was not about knowing anything about the person in question it was about thinking what stories and feelings objects show us.
What feelings does the grave raise in yourself, what do you think could have happened to the person in question and why.
One can take almost any objects that lets the imagination run wild and write a poem around it.
It could be a personal bag, a bike, a cellphone, a jewelry... anything that makes one think about the background story.
And then you just have to write what comes to your mind.
Here is the poem I wrote following this idea.
